Seema Anand Mythologies and Story Telling.
Seema’s work basically is about reviving Indian mythologies, especially the Mahabharata, Ramayana, lectures on Tantra, the Mahavidyas, the Kama Sutra, and the Bhagavad Gita. Seema’s work is associated with the UNESCO project for Endangered Oral Traditions.
She uses Stories to spread awareness to certain issues, especially women’s issues. She believes that “Stories have so many aspects and so many functions-I want to see them respected and provide a means of subsistence for the tellers.”
One of her main targets of the revival of Oral Indian Literature is re-telling the stories and change the way women are viewed there, from being victims to being strong and powerful. So, her stories will be of great assistance for rural and urban women and can be used as a commercial skill.
To date, Seema faces challenges, esp. with the Asian male’s way of thinking, as they cannot understand the storytelling concept. Her audience is mainly from Non-Asian societies.
Another reason for this may be the fact that her subjects, which are focused on women, maybe controversial. People may not be comfortable to look closely at their beliefs and change them.
However, she overcomes these challenges simply to keep narrating and spreading awareness. She said once that, attending one of her events makes people convert and change the way they think. Moreover, they always come back to watch and attend her events.
The Art of Seduction
Seema re-brought Kama Sutra to life and made it available for the twenty-first readers. Her book “The Art of Seduction” was published on 19th Feb 2019.
Her aim is to show that the seduction and sensuality is a sophisticated issue, and it should be a state of mind, and presented in our lives every day.
While talking about her book, Seema once said: “My main aim in writing this book is to make the idea of seduction part of everyday life. As Vatsyayan says, seduction is not an ‘event’, seduction is for yourself, it should be a state of mind.”
